Meeting Alexander Skarsgård

Gestern hatte ich die Möglichkeit Alexander Skarsgård, das Gesicht zu Encounter Calvin Klein persönlich kennenzulernen. Grund dafür war der Launch des Parfums im Soho House hier in Berlin. Mehr über den Duft selbst findet ihr hier.

Ich muss gestehen, dass ich Alexander Skarsgård nur aus seiner Rolle in Lady Gaga’s ”Paparazzi” kannte. Ich bin kein großer Fan der Vampir-Düster-Mythos-Glitzer-Filme und Serien und habe daher nie True Blood gesehen. Von daher ging ich recht unvoreingenommen in das Meet & Greet hinein. Alexander ist riesig, das war mir vorher nicht so bewusst. Für das Foto musste er sich beinahe auf den Boden setzen und kommentierte mein ”Sorry, I am quite short.” mit ”No problem mate!”. Auch sonst war das Interview sehr offen und ehrlich. Er redete über Hobbys, Erlebnisse und Wikinger. Hier ein kurzer Auszug :

Q: Ist dies dein erster Besuch in Deutschland?

A: Nein, ich war vorher schonmal in Berlin weil mein Vater hier für einige Jahre gearbeitet hat. Ansonsten war ich in Köln und München um mir während der Fußball WM 2006 zwei Spiele der schwedischen Nationalmannschaft anzuschauen und noch ein weiteres Mal in München, weil ich für ein Interview zur Oktoberfest da war. Einen Tag hatte ich frei und konnte mir das Spektakel genauer ansehen. Alles ist so riesig, so viele Menschen, so viel Bier und so viel Party. Total krass!

Q: Du kommst viel rum, wohnst aber in Los Angeles. Ursprünglich bist du Schwede. Was sind die größten Unterschiede zwischen L.A. und deiner Heimat?

A: Ich komme aus einem Stadtteil von Stockholm der mich sehr an Berlin erinnert. Gestern bin ich ein bisschen um die Häuser gezogen und habe mich sehr wie zuhause in Södermalm gefühlt. Da ist alles ganz nah, alle Leute die du kennst und die dir am Herzen liegen sind direkt um die Ecke. Du rufst nicht an um zu schauen wer Zeit hast, sondern gehst einfach raus und triffst deine Freunde oder deine Familie, weil alle um die Ecke wohnen. Das vermisse ich in L.A., weil alles so groß ist .

Q: Im Kurzfilm zu Encounter Calvin Klein geht es um eine Begegnung. Erzähl uns etwas darüber.

A: Es geht um einen Mann der zu einer Frau fährt. Im Auto, alles ist sehr düster. Man weiß nicht in welcher Weise die beiden zusammen gehören, ob sie zusammen gehören oder nicht und wie alles endet. Genau das fasziniert mich so sehr an der Story. Ich hasse es wenn ich ein Script lese und mir dabei keinen eigenen Freiraum für meine Gedanken lassen kann. Alles ist so vorprogrammiert und so unecht, aber bei dem Film zu Encounter Calvin Klein entscheidet der Zuschauer mit seiner eigenen Vorstellungskraft wie es weitergeht.

Nach dem Interview wurde noch ausgiebig gefeiert. Auch Alexander stoß noch dazu und hatte ein paar Bier bevor er die Party verließ.

Yesterday I had the possibility to meet Alexander Skarsgård who is the face of Encounter Calvin Klein, the newest fragrance by Calvin Klein. The reason I got invited to Soho House Berlin was the launch of this great fragrance. Find more about it here.

I have to admit that the only reason I knew Alexander Skarsgård before was his role in Lady Gaga’s Paparazzi music video. I am not a big fan of vampire movies which is why I never watched True Blood before. I think that this actually was the right choice because I went to the interview with a clear and open mind. Alexander is really tall and handsome. The picture above with him has a funny story that comes with it because I looked at him and excused myself for being quite short. He just responded saying ”No problem mate!”..cool guy! Throughout the interview Alexander talked about his hobbies, experiences and vikings. Here you have the possibility to read through some of the questions we asked him :

Q : Is this your first visit to Germany?

A : No, I already spent some time in Berlin because my father worked here for a couple of years. I also visited Cologne and Munich for some football matches of the swedish team during the World Cup in 2006. And I have great memories about another visit to Munich, during Octoberfest. I went there for interviews but actually had one day off to enjoy Octoberfest in its full glory. Man, that was crazy. Everything is so huge and the beer and parties are amazing.

Q : As we know, as an actor you travel a lot..but live in Los Angeles. Originally you come from Sweden. What are the biggest differences between L.A. and your hometown?

A : I originally come from a municipality called Södermaln, which is quite similar to this area of Berlin near Soho House. Yesterday night I walked a little bit and felt home, because as around here in Södermalm everything is so close, people are on the streets and in litle stores talking and enjoying life. I love that. All your friends, family and the people you know are just around the corner. Nobody calls or writes each other for meetings..you just go out and meet the people you know. It is quite a simple life and I like that. Totally different in L.A. because everything is so big. I kind of miss that.

Q : The short film to Encounter Calvin Klein is about an encounter, as the name itself says already. What is this all about?

A : A man drives to a woman, willing to meet her. He is in a car and the way is quite dark and gloomy. Nobody knows how the two stand to each other. It could be an ex couple, a couple or two people who did not even know each other before. Nobody knows and that is what fascinates me. I love reading scripts with an open end. They leave space for personal interpretation and imagination. The open end in the Encounter movie leaves the audience’s imagination working and working. You decide how the story ends.

After the interview we celebrated with Alexander. Such a cool guy who was not shy at all, talked with nearly everybody at the party and drank some beer with us before he left again.
